August 24th – September 22nd
Element: Earth; Energy type: Adaptable; Astrological ruler: Mercury
Nature: Methodical, analytical, practical, organisational, discerning. Virgos are so down-to-earth most of the time, but emotionally they can be quite volatile, surprising themselves and those around them with the force of their own feelings.
Downside: Virgo can take the orderly thing to extremes – listing, scheduling, timing, sorting, tidying and generally trying to control everything in the environment, including you. They don’t mean anything by it though and just need a few chill pills and to be able to look at a sink of dishes and walk past it as therapy.
Values: Good service, high standards, refinement, ‘the best’ of whatever is available

Style: Virgos have an extremely well-developed style from early in life. They tend to organize and categorise belongings. The home is extremely well-organised and can be run like an office with amazing household filing systems, libraries of books, CDs, DVDs, recipes and family archives. Cleanliness and tidiness and a place for everything is a feature of the Virgo home. Well-made, fine accessories are chosen to complement classic and expensive clothing.
Occupations: Virgo thrive in occupations that allow them to organise systems or people: they are often to be found in the background for this reason, though it’s Virgo strength that often quietly provides the structure that allows showier types to shine. Technical roles in IT, personal assistant, police work, nutritionist, dentistry, museum or library curator as well as jobs that require discernment such as fashion buying, politics and committee work.
Partners: Much to their horror, Virgos often naturally attracts the wonderfully chaotic Pisceans, who are often challenged to keep time, get dressed in daylight hours and turn up for work. Virgos are patient, long-suffering and kindness personified with this enigma, yet in the end if Pisces cannot learn the value of a well-ordered regime, Virgo will suffer with their nerves and be forced to leave behind an otherwise beautiful partnership for someone a little more orderly. Taurus and Capricorn are both good friends for Virgo, but perhaps the most ideal partner is the similarly Mercurial and yet easier-going Gemini who makes Virgo laugh.
Think: Anthony Hopkins in Remains of the Day, the butler with all that repressed sex appeal and clean hankies.
